Japanese Acupuncture |
Japanese acupuncture is one of a few major styles of acupuncture. Since the Japanese were introduced to Chinese Medicine and the integrated theories of acupuncture, bodywork, and herbal medicine in the 6th century, practitioners have developed many unique theories and techniques.
In general terms Japanese acupuncture is unique in its efficiency and precision. Techniques often are directed at using the minimal amount of stimulation to attain the greatest results. Much of the Traditional Chinese Medicine theory is still used and the majority of the acupuncture points are used with only a few modifications.
Japanese style of acupuncture uses thinner needles and perform much milder stimulation than any other styles of acupuncture. We believe that acupuncture should not be painful since the vital energy flows much better under relaxed state of mind. The traditional Japanese acupuncture, also called Meridian Therapy, uses meridians to diagnose and treat health problems. We look at the entire energy passageways to find out which route causes stagnagtion of energy flow and seek a specific acupuncture point by palpation to release the stagnation. The vital energy is responsible for keeping our bodies alive and well. As long as this energy is flowing freely, we will remain healthy; however, once the energy flow in an area becomes weak or stagnant, disease or health problems will appear soon.
Japanese acupuncture shares the same underlying medical theory but differs from the Chinese style in application and technique. In Japanese style we believe that the body's most responsive "qi" lies on, or just beneath, the skin surface. From this perspective, it is unnecessary to needle deeply or to produce a strong needle sensation. Also, in Japanese acupuncture thinner needles and fewer needles are used in a typical treatment. In short, Japanese style follows the premise that "less is more". It is only necessary to offer a gentle reminder and the body's own healing abilities will do the rest.
Japanese style acupuncture is an effective alternative treatment for a wide range of disorders such as headaches, depression, chronic pain, back pain, insomnia and problems with digestion, just to name a few.
